Info brochure Remembrance Connects Oder-Warta

The founding of the European Un- ion in 1993 and Poland‘s accession in 2004 are further milestones on the Oder-Warta region‘s new com- mon path. Today, many places of remem- brance bear witness to this equal- ly fascinating recent history of the Oder-Warta region and how the people of the region still live and interact in it today, even across bor- ders. These include the film muse- um of the „Children of Golzow“, the Viadrina Museum with the „Victims of Political Tyranny“ memorial and documentation site in Frankfurt (Oder) or the Strausberg Culture Bunker in a former NVA (National Army of the former GDR) communi- cations bunker. New cross-border projects are cre- ating new German-Polish places of remembrance, such as the Europe Bridge Bienenwerder - Siekierki, the Museum History Station Seelow (Mark), the new sites of encounter and dialogue in the Villa Wagener in Kostrzyn nad Odrą or in the Culture Dome in Słońsk. Memorials of older history, such as the ruins of the Castle of St. John in Słońsk, are being jointly restored. Extracurricular places of learning on both sides of the border convey regional history to younger genera- tions for a better understanding and a common and peaceful future. 25 8 28 12 24
