For 65 years, it has housed a museum with local character that is unique in Beeskow Castle and Contemporary Museum The Beeskow Museum has many uses. In addition to a museum, the collection also includes numerous works of art from the GDR. Brandenburg – a museum dedicated to exploring contemporary everyday culture and the background of that culture. With the aim of understanding and shaping the region, it now sees itself as a place to work, learn and negotiate with respect to issues that are relevant for the future. if you climb the 30 -metre--high keep, you can take in the region at a glance. Also located in the castle is the Musik- museum Burg Beeskow (Beeskow Castle Music Museum), which presents a cross-section of the history around how self-playing musical instruments developed. This collection offers an overview of all instrument types pro- duced in Europe and the USA . The focus is on the orchestrion, self-play- ing pianos, and reproduction pianos. On guided tours, visitors can immerse themselves in the forgotten world of music automatons and experience how music was reproduced 100 years ago. The site is also home to the „Museum Utopie und Alltag – Alltagskultur und Kunst in der DDR “ (The Utopia and Everyday Life Museum – Everyday Culture and Art in the GDR ). An open collection complementing the perma- nent exhibition in Eisenhüttenstadt, invites visitors to browse through a wide range of archived works, in- cluding large-scale oil paintings, fragile works on paper, heavy bronze busts, fine ceramics, or intricately woven tapestries. The collection can be visited as part of guided tours. The internationally acclaimed and multiple award-winning milestone of GDR documentary film history „Kinder von Golzow“ (Children of Golzow) traces the life of a rural school class, documenting on film their enrolment, their life up to the tenth school year, and their further development. Barbara and Winfried Junge‘s film and life project had a lasting impact on the identity and self-awareness of the community and its inhabitants. The long-term documentation consists of 20 films and a comprehensive ar- chive with unpublished material.
