23 A h i stor i ca l ly common cultura l area A h i stor i ca l ly common cultura l area In the immediate vicinity of the Freien- walde Basin, the region with the historical name Ziemia Lubuska/ Lubusz Land borders on its eastern side. The Oder and Neisse rivers also form the western border of the Lubusz Voivodeship. With its numerous lakes and rivers and the fact that almost half of it is woodland, this sparsely populated region‘s special landscape is strongly influenced by the ice age, making it into a true natural paradise. The area was under the rule of the Polish Piasts from the year 950 . Boleslaw II gave the land to the Arch- bishop of Magdeburg in 1249 . Later it fell into the hands of the Brandenburg Lubusz Voivodeship Regional Museum Experience the history and stories of Lubusz Voivodeship‘s historically exciting cultural landscape in the Zielona Góra Regional Museum. Platkow is one of the oldest documen- ted villages in the Märkisch-Oderland district ( 1229 ). Together with the neigh- bouring village of Gusow, there is evi- dence of settlement dating back to the Middle Stone Age. One of the most important people from Gusow was Georg von Derfflinger, who helped shape the Brandenburg region during the times of the „Great Elector“ („Gro- ßen Kurfürsten“, Friedrich Wilhelm). Theodor Fontane devoted an entire chapter to Gusow in his „Wanderun- gen durch die Mark Brandenburg“ (Travels through Mark Brandenburg). With connection to the Royal Prussian Eastern Railway in 1867 , the develop- ment of the villages took off. As a result of gravel mining from the 1970 s on- wards, a quarry pond was created, which today is part of a well-known local recreation area. Museum Platkow dedicates its exhibi- tion to palaeontology and archaeology. Numerous local finds document the development of the region from pre- history to the Middle Ages. Museum Platkow Museum Platkow not only tells the story of the double village, but also the multi-layered history of the entire region. Ascanians. Since the Oder-Neisse border was defined after the end of the Second World War, the region has once again belonged to the Polish state. On the Polish side, the history of the region is vividly documented in the Museum of the Lubusz Region in Zielona Góra. It is one of the oldest and largest museums in the region and has recently been expanded. Its collections cover aspects of the city and region‘s history from the Middle Ages to the present. It also has an interesting collection of modern art, along with collections on handicrafts and ancient and modern viticulture. Alternating special exhibitions also provide information on curated topics. The „Slawischer Burgwall Platkow“ archaeological monument is in the immediate vicinity of the museum. Rudolf Virchow has published findings from this area. Based on these findings, the museum is also active in the pre- servation of archaeological monuments. As an introduction to history, various kindergarten and school projects are also included the museum‘s offerings. Address: al.
