70 71 The Space of Fat e The Space of Fat e In Czelin, the national memorial com- memorates the first Polish border post in 1945 , and there is a memorial to the 6 th Polish Independent Engineer Battalion. In the context of the Red Army‘s Berlin Operation, the 78 , 000 -strong 1 st Polish Army under Division General Stanisław Popławski played a decisive role in the 1 st Belorussian Front. The various troop units operated at the beginning of the advance towards Berlin in the Güstebiese (Gozdowice)/Alt Rüdnitz (Stara Rudnica) section, a secondary direction of the front.
